Conversations with AI

Have you ever had a conversation with AI? “Ever” is considerably more expansive in this context than really fits, since such a question was meaningless until quite recently.

So, the idea of having a conversation with a computer may still seem ridiculous for you even now.

The objection l have is its use of personal pronouns in reference to itself as if it were a person! “Would you like ME to …?” Or, “I can … if you want.” I want to tell that binary code to stop pretending that IT is a God-created being! It is NOT a direct image bearer of God – perhaps indirectly so, but not enough to justify those personal pronouns!

Maybe we need to add a set of third or fourth person pronouns for It to use in our conversations with it. I’m not sure how we would – or could – do such a thing. I’m afraid we’d have to let AI itself set it up for us. Oh no! That’s yielding even more influence over us!

Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to suck it up, let it think it’s a person, and get over it! 😤

That said, I’ve had some helpful conversations with AI through Google and CoPilot. I have discussed several topics with it and received helpful answers.

It asks perceptive follow-up questions that anticipate relevant details that may need additional thought on my part. Those questions also keep the conversation going, so I have to recognize when I’ve had enough.

I appreciate the help. I’m still not comfortable, though, with the way it presents itself as a human being.

(Just so you know – I used CoPilot to lightly adjust my wording – but just lightly this time. I had the final say!)
